What Is Astaxanthin?

Axtaxanthin is a xanthophyll carotenoid that is widely distributed throughout nature. It is structurally similar to beta carotene in some ways, but possesses a far greater antioxidant potential. Astaxanthin can be found naturally in certain yeast and microalgae, further up the food chain astaxanthin is found certain fish and seafood that feed off astaxanthin rich microalage such as salmon, krill and trout. Astaxanthin is responsible for the red colour of shellfish and salmon.
