Beta Glucan is a naturally occurring polysaccharide that is derived from the cell wall of bakers' yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). Beta Glucan is a biological defence modifier that can potentiate and modulate the human immune response.
Beta Glucan can come in many forms, the most biologically active forms are those comprising of (1.3) links and side chains of D-Glucose attached at the (1,6) position as featured in this supplement. This is commonly displayed in supplements as (1,3)(1,6) glucans.
When orally ingested beta glucans are primarily absorbed though the stomach and intestine. The beta glucans are then presented to cells of the immune system. These immune cells are phagocytes, which engulf the beta glucan and then transport it to various immune sites in the body such as the thymus, liver, and bone marrow.Beta glucan is then delivered to white blood cells, primarily neutrophils, this is where the immune modulating effects of beta glucan begins.
