Vitamin C also known as ascorbate is a water soluble essential nutrient. Vitamin C is an antioxidant and plays a role in collagen synthesis. Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body and is found in skin, nails, tendons and even bone tissue. Vitamin C also plays a key role in supporting our immune systems. White blood cells have a particular affinity for it and store up to 50 times blood levels of Vitamin C.
As Vitamin C is water soluble, it's generally not stored within the body for great periods of time. As such daily replenishment is required to maintain high levels.
