Zinc gluconate is a bioavailable form of zinc that is bound to the naturally occuring organic compound gluconic acid (the gluconate ion). Zinc gluconate is a bioavailable well tolerated zinc supplement that can help to maintain a healthy immune system.

What Are The Benefits Of Zinc Gluconate?

As with all zinc supplements zinc gluconate provides with body with a source of zinc for its biochemical processes. Zinc plays a key role in the immune system and in the production of various hormones including testosterone.

Zinc Gluconate and The Common Cold

Zinc gluconate in the form of lozenges, tablets and spray form have been investigated on numerous occasions and have been found to lessen the duration of the common cold. A recent 2011 meta analysis found that zinc gluconate significantly reduced the duration of the common cold if administered within 24 hours of onset.

The meta analysis also concluded that longer term zinc supplementation (5 months and above) reduced the incidence of common cold, absence from school and the number of antibiotics prescribed to children over a given period.
